Changing an Activation Template

Activation templates change over time as integrations, campaigns, and team needs evolve. This page shows you how to edit, publish, duplicate, move, and delete an activation template, how template changes propagate to the activations created from it, and how to switch an existing activation to a different template.

Data Engineers typically change activation templates. To make changes, you must have Full Access permissions to Activation Templates and View or Full permissions to Integrations Hub.

Edit an Activation Template

  1. Choose one of the following:
    • Select the root folder of a parent segment, and then select Assets.
    • Right-click an existing template and select Edit Activation Template or Edit Template.

Edit unlocked/locked fields

Any edits to an activation template will also update the activations created from the template.

  • Locked fields (draft templates): Changes are reflected in the activations created from the template.
  • Unlocked fields: Any updates are not applied to the activations created from the template.
  • Locked fields (published templates): When you edit a locked field in a published template, the field is automatically converted to unlocked and cannot be changed back to locked. As a result, changes to that field are not propagated to existing activations.
Update schedulesIf you change a schedule from Does not repeat to a new repeat frequency, the activations created from the template will not be modified.

Switch an Activation to a Different Template

You can point an existing activation to a different activation template — for example, when you replace an old template with a new one and want the activations created from the old template to follow the new one. Edit the activation — for example, using the Edit activation action on the Activations Overview page — and select the new template in the Activation template field (see Enter Activation Details). When you save, the new template's locked fields and their values apply to the activation, and future changes to the new template's locked fields propagate to the activation as described in How Template Changes Affect Existing Activations.

The template you switch to must meet the following conditions:

  • The template is in the same parent segment as the activation.
  • The template type matches the activation type (batch or batch journey).
  • You can view the template in Audience Studio — folder and Activation Template permissions apply.
  • The activation exports at most one behavior table. Activations with multiple behavior tables do not support activation templates.

Treasure AI does not migrate activations between templates automatically, and there is no bulk operation in the console: update each activation individually. To switch templates for many activations programmatically, use the Update Activation API, which accepts a new activationTemplateId.

Publish an Activation Template

  1. Right-click the activation template and select Publish template. Alternately, select the ellipses menu (...) on the top right and select Publish template.

  1. Select Publish on the pop-up window.

After you publish an activation template, the status changes to Published. You cannot change unlocked fields to locked fields or change a published template back to the Draft status.

Duplicate/Move an Activation Template

You can duplicate and move activation templates to a different folder within a parent segment.

Treasure AI will only display folders that have edit access.

  1. Right-mouse-click the activation template and select Duplicate. Alternately, select the ellipses menu (...) on the top right and select Duplicate.

Delete an Activation Template

If you are deleting a Journey activation template, it must be in the draft or published stage.

  1. Right-click the activation template and select Delete. Alternately, select the ellipses menu (...) on the top right and select Delete template.
